UX Challenge
An original UX solution to a global broadcasting feature (the "bagel") was retro-fit into an evolved feature to increase user engagement through community-wide campaigns.
UX Goal
Our mobile squad's goal was to design an experience to draw attention to new engagement activities thoughtfully while avoiding notification overload.
Discovery
Observe Analytics
We saw a 58% success rate of the global broadcasting UX convention. Success was defined by users tapping the bagel to open the message.
Our Hypothesis: Retro-fitting the Campaign experience into this convention would pull from the success rate of the Broadcast "bagel" and would cloud the user's expectations for urgent messaging.

Define User Stories
In order to account for the needs of all relevant personas, we identified 2 main user stories:
1. As an admin, I want to notify users of a Campaign outside of a community, such that an active community doesn't bury my Campaign.
2. As a user, I want to be aware of how to contribute to a Campaign within a community, such that I know how to properly participate.

Outcome
Our Proposal
After many long conversations and workshopping, the App Squad came to a solution to center the focus of the app around the engagement activities themselves, and minimize the community concept. As the app has evolved, the community concept is no longer as prominent as it once was, and global messaging is evermore important.
With that now known, we were able to uncover the new Campaigns feature in the app's main feed, and establish a modular approach to the notification experience.
Implement the MVP
While the business agreed in our solution of a global feed and minimizing the "community" concept, they were not ready to scope the backend work into the roadmap due to the Sales pressure to release. The business ultimately decided to go forward with the "bagel" UX convention for the primary Campaigns notification. In an effort to move toward our future concept, we organized a 1-day offsite hackathon to develop the modular Activity (Notifications) screen.
